Join AMP at 7 PM in Commonwealth Auditorium to hear from Jeannette Walls, author of the bestselling memoir The Glass Castle, as she explores themes of childhood and resilience in her talk. Free admission: Seats are first come, first served! Doors open at 6:30 PM. At 8 PM, head to Tidewater for a free book signing with Jeannette Walls and a chance to explore a collection of challenged & banned books, celebrating the freedom to read and the stories that shape our world.
Jeannette Walls is an acclaimed American author and journalist best known for her memoir The Glass Castle (2005), a gripping account of her unconventional and often difficult childhood. The memoir became a New York Times bestseller, selling millions of copies and later adapted into a 2017 film. Walls followed up with Half Broke Horses (2009), a novelized biography of her grandmother, and The Silver Star (2013), a coming-of-age novel exploring themes of resilience and family.
Her latest novel, Hang the Moon (2023), is a historical fiction set in Prohibition-era Virginia, following Sallie Kincaid, the daughter of a powerful bootlegger, as she fights to reclaim her place in her family. Known for her vivid storytelling and compelling characters, Walls' ability to weave personal history with universal themes of survival, resilience, and the complexities of family has earned her a devoted readership. Her work continues to resonate with readers around the world, and she remains an influential voice in contemporary literature.
