Are you an instructor who is concerned about the impact of high textbook costs on your students? Explore possible alternatives by attending a 90 minute workshop and writing a short review of an open textbook from the Open Textbook Library. Apply via Tribe Responses by Nov 28, 2017 to receive a $200 professional development stipend for your efforts!
Two workshops are being offered:
- Friday, December 1, 2017, 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. (includes lunch), Swem Library, Ford Classroom (ground floor)
- Friday, December 1, 2017, 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. (includes snacks), Swem Library, Ford Classroom (ground floor)
Space and funding is limited and open textbooks are not available for all subjects so stipend applications will be assessed based on textbook subject area availability from the Open Textbook Library (open.umn.edu/opentextbooks) and a desire for wide representation of courses (discipline and level). Instructions for writing the review will be provided at the workshop. All applicants will be notified if they are eligible for a stipend before attending the workshop. All faculty are invited to attend a workshop regardless of stipend eligibility. After the workshop, participants will be asked to write a short review of an open textbook. Your review will benefit other faculty considering open textbooks as well as students seeking to lighten their debt load.
