Please join us on March 21, 2020 at 7:30 in the Wren Chapel, W&M Campus for “Songs of Syria” a concert of traditional muwashshat and favorite popular songs from Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, and Jordan. Johnny Farraj, percussionist, Arab music scholar, and creator of the website www.maqamworld.com will join us for our performance which features some of the real gems of the traditional repertoire. A freewill donation will be collected for The White Helmets a volunteer group of trained medical evacuation personnel who operate in the most dangerous areas in Syria. They have saved the lives of over 100,000 people over the last 5 years. Our concert is supported by the James H. Critchfield Endowment for Middle Eastern Studies.
