Abstract:
The Francium Parity Non-Conservation (FrPNC) collaboration aims at measuring weak-interactions in the low energy regime, using laser-cooled and trapped francium. We have constructed the trapping facility at TRIUMF, Canada?s national lab for nuclear and particle physics. We perform precision spectroscopy of the hyperfine structure and isotope shift. These measurements are useful for testing atomic and nuclear theories, which are necessary for calculating atomic parity non-conservation (APNC). We present the construction and commissioning of the precision science chamber, and present progress toward APNC experiments.
