[PAST EVENT] A Child of Destiny: Faith in the Life and Activism of Pauli Murray
Access & Features
- Open to the public
Recent William & Mary graduate Emily Elston ‘23 will return to speak on her research of Rev. Pauli Murray to honor the end of Women's History Month. This presentation is the culmination of the research that Emily began as an undergraduate at W&M and continues to expand upon today independently. Pauli Murray was a civil rights lawyer, accomplished poet, and later, one of the first women and the first African American woman ordained in the Episcopal Church. Emily's research on Pauli Murray focuses on how her faith and identity as an Episcopalian shaped her activism throughout the early days of the Civil Rights movement and later on during the Women’s movement.
