[PAST EVENT] Info Session: Bahamas 310 Field Course
Course Title: GEOL 310-01: "Geology and Marine Ecology of the Bahamas” (3 credits, COLL 300)
This Spring 2022 course counts as a geology elective, fulfills the requirements for the marine science minor field course, and includes a week-long fieldtrip to San Salvador Island in the Bahamas!
Prerequisites: Instructor permission or ONE of the following: GEOL 322, GEOL 325/BIOL 317, or MSCI 330
Field trip dates: May 22-31, 2022
Instructors: Rowan Lockwood and Linda Morse
In the classroom at W&M, students will learn the basics of marine ecology, paleontology, sedimentology, as well as Bahamian history, culture, and archaeology. In San Salvador, students will explore a number of marine and terrestrial environments, including coral reefs, sandflats, seagrass, tidal estuaries, limestone caves, blue holes, brackish water lakes, and more. In the final three days of the trip, students will tackle independent research projects focusing on shallow-water coral reefs, inland lake stromatolites, Pleistocene fossil deposits, and karst development.
All students must be able to swim and must have a valid passport

Cost: $1950, plus round-trip airfare to Nassau, Bahamas (purchased separately). Note that we have a large amount of financial aid available to support this (and other Geology) trips-- all made possible by the generosity of W&M alums.
