[PAST EVENT] VIMS @ Mathews May Faire!
Location
Courthouse Green, Main Street, Mathews, VAAccess & Features
- Open to the public
May Day Festivals were commonplace in Mathews from early 1900s to the 1980s. The Mathews Historical Museum reintroduced the festival concept in 2017, renaming it “MayFaire.” Each year, the first weekend in May, May Faire honors the heritage of Mathews County, providing residents and visitors an opportunity to explore a different aspect from the County’s past.
“A Rural Life,” the county’s 6th annual spring heritage festival, will be held Saturday, May 4. This year’s festival will feature a “county fair” atmosphere and will examine our very rural way of life—the people, their histories, their agricultural heritage, and their stories both past and present—focusing on farming, fishing and families.
Activities will take place both on the Court House Green and in the Museum. All activities are FREE of charge. Join us for: new exhibits in the museum that will showcase segments of a rural county’s agricultural heritage from past to present. A traditional May Pole Dance, musical entertainment, arts & crafts booths, a children’s corner, a children’s archeological dig with the Fairfield Foundation as well as our traditional pound cake contest are featured.
