Location
Downtown West Point, VAAccess & Features
- Open to the public
VIMS will be joining the West Point Chamber of Commerce for the most anticipated crab event in Virginia during the 42nd Annual Crab Carnival on Saturday, October 5th in the beautiful downtown waterfront district of West Point!
VIMS outreach staff will have an exhibit focusing on the decades of research on one of the most economically and culturally important species in the Bay - the blue crab, Callinectes sapidus. VIMS research has focused on all aspects of this species - including its ecology, physiology, and population dynamics; with an eye to conservation and a sustainable fishery. VIMS' exhibit will include specimens, live crabs to interact with, information, microscopes, and more!
As one of Virginia's most popular and longest-running fall festivals, the West Point Crab Carnival welcomes over 10,000 visitors from all over the east coast to enjoy the family friendly atmosphere with live music, beverages, shopping, fireworks, a parade, and of course, crabs!
