The poster for Writing Our Way Out: Memoirs from Jail

The Patrick Hayes Reading Series will conclude this semester with a reading/signing event celebrating the book "Writing Our Way Out: Memoirs from Jail." Authors Kelvin Belton, Dean Turner, & David Coogan will read from their work and discuss the project. After meeting Prof. Coogan in a writing class at Richmond City Jail, Belton and Turner not only contributed to the book but have moved on from prison to become active community members and teaching assistants at VCU. The night's event will be an inspiring one, challenging the audience to see authorship in a new way and to understand the transformative power of telling one's own story.
