Location

Fast-a-thon is an event and fundraising dinner held by the W&M MSA in order to raise money for charity and to educate the community on the importance of fasting and charity in Islam. On the day of the event, we encourage attendees to fast during the day (optional). So from sunrise to sunset, the attendees would be prohibited from eating and drinking (including water) in order to understand what a day during Ramadan is like. Everyone will break their fast at the event and then we will serve a catered dinner and dessert! Attire for the event will be business casual!

Every year, we also host a renowned guest of honor who will be speaking about the significance of these fasts and of charity. This year we will have Wajahat Ali speak at Fast a thon! He is a journalist, writer, lawyer, an award-winning playwright, a TV host, and a consultant for the U.S. State Department. For further information, you can visit this website.

Tickets for the event will be $5 which you can purchase from any MSA member! All proceeds will be going towards a charity called the Zakat Foundation of America, who will send the money we raise to their branch called Save the Rohingyans from the Genocide, a tragedy that is occurring and is not receiving the attention it needs.
