May 18, 2019
2:30pm - 5pm
Location
Legends Brewery | 321 West 7th Street, Richmond, VA 23224
Access & Features
  • Registration/RSVP

All alumni, family and friends interested in joining the discussion and the newly formed Richmond Chapter book club are welcome (and you don’t have to finish the book to participate)!

We will be reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. A fascinating story about a poor tobacco farmer from Clover, VA whose cancer cells became immortalized (called HeLa cells) and aided in many critical advances in biomedical research. Family, race, ethics/bioethics, scientific research, legal issues, and mortality are just some of the many significant areas embraced in this book.

Book club from 3-5 pm, but come at 2:30 to order food and drink to enjoy during the book club and to participate in a short meeting to plan for our second year! Bring ideas for books you would like to have on the list, activities and places to meet.

Next books:

The Secret Token: Myth, Obsession and the Search for the Lost Colony of Roanoke by Andrew Lawler, Saturday, June 29th, 3-5 pm; Location TBD
