Judicial clerkships are one of the best ways for young lawyers to bridge the gap between law school and actual practice, but the path to the right clerkship for you can be a difficult one to walk with an overwhelming amount of information.
On Wednesday, September 22nd, at 6:00 p.m. ET, the Virginia Bar Association—in association with the Office of Career Services—will present via Zoom an informative session on judicial clerkships and careers in appellate law with a networking opportunity to follow! This program will assist students in understanding the differences and benefits of clerkships at different levels of the judiciary, guide students through the clerkship application process, and give an insider’s perspective on successfully obtaining and thriving in a clerkship. The panelists will also discuss careers in appellate law, including how to use a clerkship as a starting point for appellate careers as well as other approaches to breaking into appellate practice. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions during a panel event before transitioning into a virtual networking reception.
The panelists will include Senior Justice Leroy F. Millette, Jr., Senior Justice for the Virginia Supreme Court, and William & Mary Law Professor Katherine Mims Crocker, with moderation by Monica T. Monday, Managing Partner for Gentry Locke. The panelists’ full descriptions can be found below.
• Senior Justice LeRoy F. Millette, Jr., ’74, Senior Justice, Supreme Court of Virginia
• Katherine Mims Crocker, Assistant Professor of Law; former clerk for Justice Scalia of the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge Wilkinson of the 4th Circuit
