[PAST EVENT] The Importance of American LGBTQ Political and Legal History
Access & Features
- Registration/RSVP
The new “Archive of American LGBTQ Political and Legal History,” located at W&M, will be featured at this upcoming event. This Archive is the first of its kind – creating a scholarly repository for the study of the political and legal history that brought a revolution in the rights of LGBTQ Americans.
In partnership with W&M Libraries, the Office of Strategic Cultural Partnerships, the Crim Dell Association, and the Mattachine Society of Washington, DC, the W&M Washington Center invites you to Save the Date for an important event, highlighting W&M’s new Archive of American LGBTQ Political and Legal History.
Join us for this important discussion, and hear the stories that this Archive brings to light.
Hear from the generous donors who made this archive possible:
Charles Francis, President, Mattachine Society
Pate Felts, Co-founder and Chief Financial Officer, Mattachine Society
Former W&M Rector Jeff Trammell ’73
Learn about and see first-hand select items of W&M’s new Archive of American LGBTQ Political and Legal History, which was established in memory of John Boswell ’69. The archive includes donations from the Mattachine Society’s collection of “archive activism,” focused primarily on the history of federal discrimination against LGBTQ civilian employees and military personnel, and materials from Rector Trammell’s tenure as the first openly gay board chair of a major public university.
