The ASL Club hosts Silent Dinner events to bring awareness to the Deaf Community. Members can learn about Silent Dinners during the Culture Corner portion of our regular meetings, but one of the best ways to learn is through immersive experience. The goal of a Silent Dinner is to demonstrate how challenging this common socializing event (mealtime) can be for Deaf individuals in a hearing setting, especially if they are relying on lipreading (because people talk with their mouthful, cover their faces, shout across conversations, etc.). This event also provides time for people to practice their signing skills (no talking allowed! writing tools available).
