New mechanisms that allow citizens to participate in decision-making, design shared worlds, and challenge authority have transformed traditional notions of governance and the rights and responsibilities of citizens. This symposium draws upon a significant tradition in American Studies that focuses on how citizenship is defined by “imagined communities,” while also incorporating approaches from feminism, queer theory, disability activism, and racial justice movements.
Food will be provided for those who pre-register as in-person attendees.
