Dr. Woolf's research demonstrates that addressing poverty, education, and the causes of racial and ethnic disparities will improve the health of Americans far more than medical technological advances. Dr. Woolf brings this message to policymakers and to the public through testimony in Congress, editorials in major newspapers, web-based tools, and speeches.

Dr. Woolf served as member and science advisor to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. He also edited the first two editions of the Guide to Clinical Preventive Services and authored the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention in Clinical Practice textbook. He was elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies in 2001.
