[PAST EVENT] Muslim Student Associaton's Fast-a-thon

Join the W&M Muslim Student Association and United Muslim Relief at William & Mary for our fourth annual Fast-a-Thon on February 26th featuring Imam Khalid Latif as our keynote speaker. Fast-a-thon is a charity event where we invite the campus community to fast in the Islamic tradition by abstaining from food and drink from dawn to sunset while raising money for a worthy cause. At the end of the day, we will break our fasts together over a catered dinner funded by William & Mary Student Assembly and the W&M Center for Student Diversity and learn about the significance of fasting in Islam. This year, all proceeds will go towards the Our Three Winners endowment established in honor of the victims of the Chapel Hill shooting. We will also be collecting non-perishable food times for FISH, Inc., a not-for-profit agency providing help to residents of the greater Williamsburg area.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased with cash, through PayPal ({{https://goo.gl/0QDIyi}}), or with Venmo (@HibaVohra). We will be tabling in Sadler during lunch and dinner until the day of the event, or you can find any MSA or UMR member around campus to make your payment. Make sure to come pick up your ticket from Sadler tabling if you paid online! The funds will go towards general humanitarian programs that inspired Our Three Winners including free dental services domestically and abroad, educational opportunities for people in socioeconomically disadvantaged areas, and feeding the homeless, as well as other social services. Imam Khalid Latif is a University Chaplain for New York University, Executive Director of the Islamic Center at NYU, and the youngest Chaplain to serve the NYPD. He was recently named one of the most influential Muslims in the world by Georgetown's Prince Alwaleed Center for Muslim Christian Understanding and joined Pope Francis and Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove last year in an interfaith memorial of 9/11. Earlier this month, he joined President Obama for a roundtable discussion right before his address at the Islamic Society of Baltimore.
