In conversations across campus last fall and at the COLL 400 town halls in February, Center for the Liberal Arts fellows have heard two broad strands of thinking about the COLL 400:

--Adapting existing department or program capstone courses for COLL 400 attribution

--Developing interdisciplinary and team-taught COLL 400s

Consequently, after some initial review of the COLL 400 requirement, this brown bag will break into two groups.

Group 1: Come consult and brainstorm with colleagues from across the university about ideas on how to make your disciplinary seminar a COLL 400. A particular focus will be sharing and developing assignments that build students? skills in communicating effectively with a diversity of audiences. If you or your department or program already has a capstone course that seems suitable for COLL 400 attribution (see below), this Brown Bag Group is for you!

Group 2: Come hear from colleagues about pilot ideas for COLL 400s that are interdisciplinary and that might take novel forms (through team or co-teaching, for example), and spitball ideas of your own. This Group will also feature some ?speed-matching? conversations, so that colleagues can identify potential new collaborators in the COLL 400 endeavor. If the prospect of an interdisciplinary or innovatively structured COLL 400 interests you or your department or program, then this Brown Bag Group is for you!

There will be food, so if you plan to attend RSVP to Sharon Morris (stmorris@wm.edu) no later than 2:00 on Friday, March 17.

The CLA will also sponsor a May Seminar focused on developing COLL 400s, and this Brown Bag will provide more information about that opportunity.
