[PAST EVENT] Culturally Responsive Practices 2017
Spend a day exploring culturally responsive practices in higher educational settings by joining the Higher Education Student Association on April 1.
Topics will include linguistic diversity, social justice action planning, LGBTQ issues, Black Lives Matter, first-generation college students, working with scapegoated groups and free speech on campus and in the classroom.
Featured speakers include Claire Gasta?aga, executive director of the ACLU of Virginia and Robyn Ochs, educator, speaker and LGBT activist.
Thanks to generous support from the Graduate Education Association, the School of Education Dean?s Office and the Office of Diversity & Inclusion, this event is FREE for William & Mary students, faculty and staff.
Lunch from Qdoba is included.

About our featured speakers:
Claire Gasta?aga has been the executive director of the ACLU of Virginia since 2012. Named in 2010 as one of the 50 Women of Influence in Virginia, Gasta?aga has worked as a lobbyist for such organizations as Equality Virginia, the Virginia Coalition for Latino Organizations and the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Alliance. Before that, she was a key player in state government, serving as Chief of Staff and Special Counsel to the Speaker of the House of the Virginia House of Delegates and as the first woman Chief Deputy Attorney General of Virginia.
Robyn Ochs is an educator, speaker, award-winning activist, and editor of the Bi Women Quarterly, the 42-country anthology, Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World and the new anthology RECOGNIZE: The Voices of Bisexual Men. Her writings have been published in numerous bi, women?s studies, multicultural, and LGBT anthologies and she has taught university courses in gender and sexuality studies.
An advocate for the rights of people of ALL orientations and genders to live safely, openly and with full access and opportunity, Robyn?s work focuses on increasing awareness and understanding of complex identities, and mobilizing people to be powerful allies to one another within and across identities and social movements.
