The speakers will cover issues that students today, particularly minority student, are facing in their educational journeys including: the impact of social and cultural values in African American communities on African American education achievement; the impact of poverty and contact with the criminal justice system on education achievement; the overrepresentation of minorities in special education; the inability of illegal immigrants raised in the United States to attend American colleges; the importance of minority teachers to serve as role models for minority students; and eliminating the achievement gap among African American men. Following the symposium, there will be a reception and refreshments in the Law School lobby. Free and all are welcome.
