The final research project for HIST 211: Artisans in the American Archaeological record is a search for more information about the life of Julia Minson, a free black woman who owned property on Duke of Gloucester Street in Williamsburg and supported herself in the sewing trades. What started with a question about buttons has grown into an analysis of one woman's life, property, friends, and self-determination.
