In its 2020 special session, the General Assembly of Virginia passed legislation empowering civilian oversight boards, emphasizing that these boards are an important step in police reform for localities. Experts on policing concur that independent community oversight boards are an important measure in fostering accountability and transparency. Since that time, the WJCC Coalition for Community Justice has organized to ensure that justice and equity for all people in every aspect of the criminal legal system is realized in Williamsburg and James City County. Community members will have the opportunity to submit questions. This event is in collaboration with the Williamsburg Regional Library.
