Professor Schlabach's talk is called "Jet Magazine, September 1955: Making Visual Sense of Emmett Till and Jet's Beauty of the Week Feature."

Betsy Schlabach is a visiting assistant professor in the history department and American studies program. Her research focuses on African American history, urban studies--specifically race relations in mid 20th-century Chicago--and women's studies. Her book project with University of Illinois Press entitled "Along the Streets of Bronzeville: Black Chicago's Renaissance" is a study of geography, race and the arts in Bronzeville. She obtained her Ph.D. in American studies from St. Louis University in 2008.
