The Five Great Hazing Myths is a program developed by hazing author and researcher Gentry McCreary, Ph.D. The program presents and dissects five common myths used by students to defend and justify hazing. The program offers students a variety of strategies to employ in addressing the hazing culture in their organizations.

The myths confronted are:

  • Hazing builds better members
  • It isn?t hazing if the newest members volunteer to participate
  • Hazing builds commitment to the group
  • Hazing teaches respect
  • Hazing is a tradition
