This collaboration between Virginia Stage Company, William and Mary Theatre, and local scholars is devised to foster discussions which renew and connect various communities by more than just congested highways, bridges, and tunnels, while also recognizing caliber scholarship from area institutions.

DR. SANDRA SHANNON author of The Dramatic Vision of August Wilson, co-editor of the 2004 Palgrave publication August Wilson and Black Aesthetics and founder of the interdisciplinary-focused August Wilson Society at Howard University will provide the symposium keynote address.

Guest scholars from NORFOLK STATE UNIVERSITY, OLD DOMINION UNIVERSITY, REGENT UNIVERSITY and Producing Artistic Directors from SYCAMORE ROUGE THEATRE and the AFRICAN AMERICAN REPERTOIRE THEATRE COMPANY will participate.
