- Open to the public
The Art & Art History department welcomes Michael Ananian, artist and Professor of Art (Drawing and Painting), School of Art at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
All are welcome to join the Art Department and Michael Ananian on Thursday, October 3, 2019, 4-6 PM for the reception of his exhibition Portraits and Characters, Tales and Songs. Michael will perform on his 19th century replica and contemporary banjos the tunes his paintings reference.
Michael Ananian’s paintings and drawings combine his leitmotifs of portraiture and working from life with his interests in Old Time music and the Banjo. Ananian is interested in particularity and the countless visual sensations afforded by working from life, which seems to have an aural counterpart in Banjo traditions of learning and transmitting music by ear.
