The climate for LGBT+ people on university campuses affects the performance and retention of students and faculty alike. Recent large surveys of the climate in higher education have allowed for a look at the STEM disciplines in particular. There appears to be a need for an increased awareness and for role models. The national organization lgbt+physicists aims to be a resource of information and a place for young physicists to find mentors. In the past 5 years, through various initiatives and conference workshops, we hope to have started improving the climate for LGBT+ physicists in educational and research environments in the US and abroad.
