Join the Muscarelle Museum and Office of Career Development & Professional Engagement for a continuation of our Careers in Museums programs. Minds Behind Museums: Professional Roles will feature a panel of professionals with varying roles and experience in museums to discuss their work, the specifics of each role, and share more about career pathways in museums (hint - it is more than a curator). Attendees will also have a chance to network with our panelists.

Alan Braddock, Department Chair, Ralph H. Wark Professor of Art History, Environmental Humanities, and American Studies, William & Mary
Bio: Alan C. Braddock is the Ralph H. Wark Professor of Art History, American Studies, and Environmental Humanities at William & Mary. In addition to having more than two decades of experience teaching Art History at four different institutions (William & Mary, Syracuse University, Temple University, and Princeton University), he has worked in various museum roles over the years: as a Research Assistant at the Brandywine River Museum, a Museum Educator at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and as Associate Curator of the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. He also served as guest co-curator of Nature's Nation: American Art and Environment, a major exhibition featuring more than 120 works of art from 70 different institutions that originated at the Princeton University Art Museum in 2018 and traveled to the Peabody Essex Museum and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. The book Braddock co-wrote with Karl Kusserow to accompany Nature's Nation received three national awards, including the Alfred J. Barr Jr. Award for Excellence from the College Art Association. In 2019, Braddock inaugurated The Curatorial Project, a new course in museum curatorship for Art History majors at William & Mary, culminating in the exhibition Objects of Ceremony at the Muscarelle Museum of Art.
Danielle Moretti-Langholz, Director of the Thomasina E. Jordan American Indian Resource Center, William & Mary
Bio: Danielle Moretti-Langholtz is the Director of the Thomasina E. Jordan American Indian Resource Center and administrator of the interdisciplinary Native Studies minor. Her research focus is on the political resurgence of Virginia Indians. As the Curator of Native American Art at the Muscarelle Museum of Art, Danielle has curated four major exhibitions, including a retrospective on the work of Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (2007) , In Reach of Memory Still: the Legacy and Artwork of Kiowa Five (2011) , A Life in Costume, an exhibition of the costumes of Glenn Close (2013), and Building the Brafferton: The Founding, Funding and Legacy of America’s Indian School (2016-17). She is also working to expand the collection of Native art at the Muscarelle.
Glenda Turner, Sr. Director of Marketing & Public Relations, Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation
Bio: Glenda Turner is a results-driven marketing and public relations professional, currently serving as the Senior Director of Marketing and Public Relations at Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. She has a wealth of prior experience with over 22 years in leadership positions for Busch Gardens and Water Country USA overseeing brand management, advertising, retail and media promotions, sponsorships, and strategic planning.
In her role at the museums, Glenda oversees a talented team of professionals responsible for crafting compelling marketing and advertising campaigns, managing public relations initiatives, cultivating sales partnerships, and fostering digital engagement. She has established a track record of successfully rebranding the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation museums’ website and social media visibility and creating a more strategic and collaborative environment with departments across the agency. Glenda believes that at its core, her job is about building relationships with the staff and professional partners.
Sani Silvennoinen, Associate Vice President of Development, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation
Bio: Sani Silvennoinen joined the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in October, 2021 and is responsible for leading the major, principal and planned giving teams. He came to CW from William & Mary where he most recently served as an Assistant Vice President for Development. In that role he supervised several fundraising units from across the university and served as the lead for all fundraising, campaign and alumni engagement activities outside of the United States. Previously, Sani served as Vice President for Advancement at the American University in Bulgaria, Director of Development at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, campaign director at the Helsinki University of Technology in his native country of Finland, and as a major gift officer at Yale University. Sani earned his B.A. from Yale University and his M.A. in Political Science from the University of Jyvaskyla (Finland).
Moderator: David Brashear, Executive Director, Muscarelle Museum of Art
Bio: David Brashear is the current Director of the Muscarelle Museum of Art at William & Mary. Prior to his appointment in 2019 he served as a member of the Muscarelle board for 17 years, including 4 as board chair.
David holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from Harvard. He has also completed extensive work at the graduate level at Columbia University, with a focus on architectural history. David is also an accomplished photographer, and his work has been featured in several museum exhibitions.
