Over the past week there have been multiple incidents of fatal racism, illustrating, once again, centuries of inequity and oppression experienced by Black and Brown communities. From overt, lethal hate crimes to covert racism through silence, these tragedies have a heavy impact on children, education, and our peers.
Our conversation Thursday will focus on support resources for students of color, the role of allyship, and actionable steps we can all take to support one another and create an inclusive culture characterized by equity and open dialogue.
Our aim is twofold:
1. To demonstrate that we are here for you, and you are welcome to come to us with your concerns. We see you and we hear you.
2. To discuss our roles as educators, counselors, school psychologists, advocates and leaders in making an impact in our communities and becoming true allies to our communities of color, and particularly to our African American community.
Dr. Natoya Haskins, Dr. Janise Parker, Dr. Leandra Parris, Dr. Katherine Barko-Alva, and Dr. Kim Lee Hughes, president-elect of the Association of Multicultural Counseling and Development, will facilitate this courageous conversation. We hope you will join us on Thursday, June 4th, 2020 at 6:00 p.m.
