[PAST EVENT] Research in Action Speaker Series: Jill Hamm
The second talk in the School of Education's Research in Action Speaker Series will bring Jill Hamm to campus for a talk on Jan. 25.
Teams, cliques, support networks?school communities contain formal and informal webs of social networks that connect students, teachers and staff in complex ways. Dr. Hamm will discuss how these relationships evolve and present strategies to leverage social networks to promote better outcomes for students.
The speakers series is designed to bring together students, faculty and practitioners to discuss new ideas in education.
About the speaker
Jill V. Hamm earned her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is Professor of Applied Developmental Sciences and Special Education in the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As Director of the Social Development and Intervention Research Program at the Center for Developmental Science at UNC-CH, she leads and collaborates on research projects designed to help educators improve school experiences and outcomes for adolescent students.
Her research addresses naturally-occurring academic and social processes in middle and high schools, as well as the development and testing of evidence-based professional learning experiences for teachers to support students? academic, social, and behavioral adjustment.
