Text and data mining (TDM) is an area of research that looks for patterns of meaning in large datasets or groups of texts. TDM introduces a wide range of research opportunities from mining articles and newspapers to creating better systematic reviews. However, along with these opportunities comes some legal constraints researchers should be aware of before beginning their projects.
In this workshop of the Data Crunch and DH Discovery Workshop Series, a part of Researcher Services at W&M Libraries, we will discuss copyright, and license restrictions of library subscription databases for TDM. We will introduce attendees to ways of navigating these legal considerations as well as highlight resources that qualify as fair-use options and exemptions to copyright.
Snacks will be provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch. Please register by October 8th.
