Title:
Impacts from Earth’s Impacts
Brief Description:
The Earth has been bombarded by meteors of various sizes and shapes since its original accretion ~4.6 Bya. Most such meteors burn up completely upon entry into the Earth’s atmosphere. Other meteors are large enough to survive the trip through the atmosphere. These larger meteors impact Earth’s terrestrial or aquatic surfaces and survive as meteorites, leaving considerable evidence of their impact as a crater. This talk will discuss some of the environmental consequences of a couple of such impacts, focusing on a well-known impact (Chicxulub) and a controversial recently hypothesized series of impacts, collectively referred to as the Younger Dryas Impact.
See you on Wednesday!
