Pawan Dhingra (Ph.D. sociology, Cornell University) is Museum Curator for the Smithsonian Smithsonian Indian American Heritage Project. He also
is Associate Professor at Oberlin College. His publications include the award-winning Managing Multicultural Lives: Asian American Professionals and the Challenge of Multiple Identities (Stanford University Press, 2007) and numerous articles on race, small-business ownership, identity, immigrant adaptation, geography, religion, and
Asian American studies. His new book, Life Behind the Lobby: Indian
American Motel Owners and the American Dream (Stanford University
Press) is forthcoming April 2012.
