October 11, 2023
12pm - 1pm
Access & Features
- Free food
- Open to the public
In this talk, Professor Andrzejewski close-reads Lady Macbeth’s expressions of anger to posit that, when read through the frameworks of mad, disability, and affect studies, Shakespeare’s mad/women speak to the ways minoritized subjects’ rage is dismissed more broadly. She demonstrates that these women’s bloodied hands, their vibrant flowers, their insatiable lust, and their explosive self-centered claims on the world deserve to be heard, deserve uptake, despite centuries of readings that have rendered them hysterical.
