The National Trial Team is a law school competition team that competes in tournaments all over America (including Washington, D.C., New York City, Alabama, Puerto Rico, San Francisco, and elsewhere). Students are trained on direct and cross examinations, opening and closing statements, and the persuasive presentation of facts to a jury. First-year students may try out for the team in our Selection Tournament, which will take place October 21-November 5. Students who are selected to join the Trial Team will be taught basic trial advocacy skills, as well as the Federal Rules of Evidence, in a development class their 1L Spring. Students then train with successful Virginia trial lawyers in their 2L Fall in a trial advocacy class for which students will receive three pass/fail credits. For more information on the Selection Tournament or the National Trial Team, contact Darrell Getman, Lead Recruitment Counsel, at djgetman@email.wm.edu.
