Please join SIPS as we welcome William & Mary Law alum, Judge James Moore for a lunch talk about the changing role of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) after the AIA and his career in a private IP firm, the corporate sector, and in government.

Vice Chief Administrative Patent Judge James T. Moore was appointed to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (formerly the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences) in 2001. He became a member of the Interference Section in 2003 and Lead Judge of the Trial Division in 2005. Judge Moore was appointed Vice Chief Judge of the Board in 2008, and served as Acting Chief Judge from 2010-2011.

Judge Moore has practiced in firm and corporate settings, handling patent prosecution and litigation. He also has had an extensive practice involving intellectual property portfolio management, licensing, joint ventures, sponsored research, and related corporate issues.

Judge Moore is a past president of the Greater Richmond Intellectual Property Law Association; a registered patent attorney; and a member of the Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Virginia Bars. He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Prior to joining the USPTO, Judge Moore served as Senior Patent Counsel for Philip Morris USA from 1995-2000, and was an associate at Connolly, Bove, Lodge & Hutz (now Novak Druce Connolly Bove + Quigg).

Judge Moore is a Pennsylvania native and a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He received his law degree from the William and Mary School of Law in Williamsburg, Virginia, and served as a law clerk to Judge James R. Cavanaugh of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania.
