Doctors' Commons would like to invite all law students to our very first interest lunch on Thursday, September 22, featuring a presentation of upcoming events from our officers and the Chancellor of the Commons, Prof. Tom McSweeney. Fresh lunch/dessert (including vegetarian options) will be provided.

One of the law school?s newest societies, Doctors? Commons Legal History Society fosters interest in legal history and connects law students to undergraduate and graduate history programs at William & Mary, as well as to the broader legal and historical community in the Tidewater region. Aiming to further the goal of gathering together like-minded lawyers, Doctors? Commons was inspired by the society of the same name, which dates from sixteenth-century London. Guided by Professor Thomas McSweeney, our Chancellor of the Commons, Doctors? Commons provides a fun and relaxed way for law students to tap into the rich history of our profession and geographic location. Doctors? Commons hosts numerous lunches, talks, and events through the year on a variety of legal and historical topics. Planned events include a legal history tour of Colonial Williamsburg, a day-trip to the John Marshall House in Richmond, a Celebratory Evening at Chownings? Tavern, visits to Yorktown and Jamestown, and much more! Doctors? Commons is open to students interested in all levels of involvement and commitment. New members are welcome to join us for any of our events and are eligible for leadership opportunities. Our goal is to provide an outlet for those interested in legal history and to connect fellow students and faculty in a friendly learning environment. As Charles Dickens said of the London Doctors? Commons in his novel, David Copperfield, it is a ?cosey, dosey, old-fashioned, time-forgotten, sleepy-headed little family party.? We certainly hope you will join our ?little family party? as we delve into the past and forge new experiences and understandings.
