he Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, through its ?Japan?s Friendship Ties Programs,? has selected W&M as one of the universities for a January 2016 short-term study abroad program.

This program, entirely coordinated and funded by the relevant Japanese agency, provides 11 W&M students and 1 W&M faculty the opportunity to travel to Japan from January 6 to January 14, 2016. All lodging and transportation costs in Japan as well as the international flight from Washington, DC to Tokyo will be covered by the Japanese government. Applicants must commit to sharing their experiences/knowledge of Japan after returning to the USA. Connected to this program, participants will enroll in a 1-credit course taught by the accompanying W&M faculty member. A $275 charge is associated with this course.

W&M will conduct the initial review of student applications including verifying good academic and disciplinary standing, as well as demonstrated interest in Japan, and then will make nominations to the Japanese agency, which will make the final acceptance decision. Students who display an interest in the Japanese language and/or culture are encouraged to apply.
