[PAST EVENT] Small, Smaller, Smallest: How Nanotechnology has Changed our World.
November 30, 2011
12pm - 1pm
Location
Virginia Museum of Science
Nanotechnology has drastically changed our lives and the world in the last few years. This new discipline deals with materials, structures and devices having at least one dimension sized from 1 to 100 nanometers (one nanometer is a billionth of a meter!). Matter has new and striking properties in this extraordinarily small scale, opening up a whole new world of applications in computation, telecommunications, energy, medicine and defense among many others. During my talk, I will review some of the most striking discoveries that have made Nanotechnology the most fascinating and promising area of research in the last years. Then, I will focus on some more specific areas of Nanotechnology with special interest such as data storage and biosensing.
