[PAST EVENT] Election Law Society Symposium: Alabama Again: The Future of Voting Rights Act Dilution Claims
Since its passage in 1965, the Voting Rights Act (VRA) has protected the voting rights of minority voters across the country, particularly in the South. For decades VRA vote dilution claims have generated significant disagreements in the courts. In February, the Supreme Court teed up a case that cuts to the core of § 2 VRA vote dilution protections. This year’s ELS Symposium features the Alabama Secretary of State, the lead attorney representing the state, and advocates from the Southern Coalition of Social Justice and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund to engage in a discussion of Merrill v. Milligan and the future of VRA § 2 vote dilution claims.
This year’s Symposium takes place on April 1st from 3:30-5:00 in Room 124 at the Law School with a wine & cheese reception to follow in the Patten Family Courtyard.
