[PAST EVENT] We Day feat. Emmanuel Jal & Taylor Conroy!
February 15, 2015
7:30pm - 9:30pm
Emmanuel Jal is the definition of social change. He was forced to fight as a child soldier in Sudan around the age of seven, but he was able to escape the cycle. He has since used his experience to strengthen his voice in order to bring peace. He was recently featured in the movie "The Good Lie" (starring Reese Witherspoon), is known for his hit song "We Want Peace" (featuring Alicia Keys), and his renowned TedTalk, "Music of a War Child". Through his performance, we hope that he will empower W&M's future leaders of the world and help them build their capacities to enact change for a better future.
Taylor Conroy was inspired after a life-altering trip to Kenya, where he sold his multimillion dollar real estate business to launch Change Heroes -- a ground-breaking, friend funding platform that has raised well over $1,000,000 to fund 100+ projects, including schools, libraries, scholarships, and anti-sex trafficking work in 12 developing countries that will impact over 100,000 people. He gave the opening keynote at the Harvard University Social Enterprise Conference, and lectures on social entrepreneurship at New York University. Taylor recently addressed delegates from around the world at the United Nations in New York, and is considered a pioneer and thought leader in the social entrepreneurship and social enterprise space. All that being said - Taylor is equally happy to have surfed the longest wave in the world (in Peru), meditated with Zen monks in Japan, trained as a yoga teacher in Costa Rica, run with the bulls in Spain, built schools in Kenya, stepped foot on every continent and explored 35 countries.
We can't wait to see you there!

More information about We Day at W&M:
We Day brings young people together to celebrate the actions that they are taking in their local and global communities and to inspire another year of change by sharing the passion of world leaders and entertainers.
We Day at W&M has the theme of Ubuntu. Ubuntu is a South African proverb which means: "I am what I am because of who we all are." Ubuntu, in Zambian culture means the essence of being human. Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can't exist as a human being in isolation. It speaks about our interconnectedness. You can't be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality. ?Ubuntu? you are known for your generosity. We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, versus the reality that we are all connected, and what one person does affects the whole world. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity.
Join us in the We Day philosophy: "From me, to We"!
