Professor Michael Daise

Since the full publication of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 2002 scholarly attention toward
them has turned from matters of archaeology, paleography and text criticism to those
of history, literature and the social sciences. Among these new approaches is an
interest in the ritual practiced by the early Jewish sectarians responsible for the Scrolls;
and in this talk I will present this promising line of research (and my own work in it)
by looking at the premier rite observed by these groups: the covenant renewal
ceremony, as sketched out in the document titled The Rule of the Community.
Drinks & Snacks available for all! (Please feel free to bring your own lunch.)
