Shannon Van Zandt, Ph.D., AICP, is Director of the Center for Housing & Urban Development and Faculty Fellow in the Hazard Reduction & Recovery Center at Texas A&M University.

As an urban planner, Van Zandt's research focuses on how development patterns increase exposure for the most vulnerable in our communities and the consequences of such exposure. She recently completed a five-year study of community recovery from 2008's Hurricane Ike on Galveston Island.
