Struggling with a course and unsure what to do? Are you asking yourself questions like:  Should I withdraw from a class? Can I underload? What does a W mean for my future? If so, it is time for a conversation. Join staff members from the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs and Academic Wellbeing to have your questions answered and to explore your options in an informal setting.

Pros:

  • Withdrawing from a class can show you took the initiative and made a responsible decision to focus on your remaining courses, obligations, and wellbeing.
  • If you are struggling with a class, withdrawing may provide relief from anxiety and stress.
  • Withdrawing from a class will not impact your GPA, whereas a poor grade will.

Cons:

  • Withdrawing from a class may make you feel as though you have wasted your time.
  • If the class you are withdrawing from is a prerequisite, you may need to meet with an advisor to develop a plan for future semesters.
  • Withdrawing from a class and being under 12 credits may impact financial aid and scholarships, which is why we encourage you to check with Financial Aid first.
