Forward to Justice: MLK March to the Hearth
Access & Features
- Open to the public
The Center for Student Diversity, in collaboration with the National Panhellenic Council, Ebony Expressions Gospel Choir, & Black Poets Society, invite you to join us for a march to the Hearth for readings and reflections to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. King paved the way for social justice and his actions are still making a difference nearly 60 years after his assassination in 1968. This march symbolizes Dr. King's visionary leadership and dedication to advancing civil rights, justice, and equality. We encourage the W&M community and members of the greater Williamsburg area to join us as pay tribute to Dr. King’s lasting legacy and to renew our commitment to the ongoing fight for racial justice.
We will gather at the Sadler Center Atrium at 4:30pm, and commence the march at 4:45pm. We will then proceed to the Hearth: Memorial to the Enslaved, where we will gather for a ceremony to reflect on Dr. King's ideals and share stories of how his work continues to inspire change in our world today. Special selections will be provided by the National Panhellenic Council, Ebony Expressions Gospel Choir, and the Black Poets Society.
Following the vigil, light refreshments and food will be provided.
**In the event of inclement weather, all ceremonial activities will take place in the Sadler Center Atrium.**
