Allison Aitken, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Columbia University, will present a talk titled "Vasubandhu on Volitional Action: From Mind-Body to Mind-Only."

All are welcome.

Abstract: What, metaphysically speaking, qualifies an action as volitional? In other words, what is it in the nature of things that entitles us to distinguish between two seemingly identical bodily movements, one intentional and the other involuntary? In this talk, I look at one Buddhist response to this question drawing on the work of the 4th-5th century Indian Buddhist philosopher Vasubandhu.
