Full Description
Roxane Pickens is a doctoral candidate in the American Studies Program, and her dissertation director is Lynn Weiss. She is a senior lecturer in the English department at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, where she has worked since fall, 2007. Titled "Dark Play: Notes on Narrative Festivity, Identity, and Interactions with African Americans in the U.S. Jazz Age," this dissertation project considers the uses and meanings behind festive representations of African Americans in 1920s expressive culture.
