Hook-ups, i.e., uncommitted sexual encounters without the traditional romantic purpose, have become the norm on many college campuses. The first part of this talk will survey the underlying causes of the hook-up culture as well as the sociological, psychological, medical and philosophical data that are converging to convincingly shed light on the enslavement and related dangers posed by the hook-up culture. The second part of the talk will give a theological perspective from a Judeo-Christian worldview to counter the dangers of hooking up and build a vocation-driven life of authentic love, truth, freedom, happiness and friendship.
