The e-internship application for the Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS) program is now open! Students may apply through Tribe Careers (search PACS intern or job ID: 18360) through September 18, 2015 at 5 p.m. EST.
The virtual internships are completed from your dorm room, but span the globe and such subjects as: development, aid, security, environment, energy, health, media, foreign policy, and more.

The Peace and Security Studies' e-internship program is a novel approach to undergraduate internships that builds on a growing telecommuting trend in the business community. Using the College's IT infrastructure, the e-internship program links students in Williamsburg with government agencies, think tanks, non-governmental organizations, and industry in the United States and internationally. PACS e-interns apply the knowledge and skills they attain in their classes to real world challenges, gaining insight into the interplay between theory and practice in international affairs as well as valuable professional experience. Moreover, e-internships can serve as a valuable boost to securing onsite internships in the future.
Students participating in the program do not have to find their own internships. PACS has secured internship positions in the international affairs community. Once selected into the e-internship program, PACS and the e-internship directors will work with organizations to place students. E-intern applicants should specify organization preferences in their cover letters.
For the 2015-2016 academic year, applications are due by 5pm on Friday September 18. This year, the following organizations are seeking PACS e-interns:

Center for Disease Control
Center for International Maritime Security
Diplomatic Courier Magazine
Global Health, U.S. Air Force Combat Command
International Affairs, U.S. Air Force Combat Command
International Development Law Organization
National Defense University
Sister Cities International
US Army Training and Doctrine Command
US Army Training Brain Operations Center
US European Command
Visual Awareness Technologies and Consulting, Inc.
Xanandu Geography, LLC
Young Professionals in Foreign Policy
And more based on your interests!
As a PACS e-intern, you will have the following responsibilities:
E-interns must work 2 hours a day for their organization for a total of 10 hours a week during the fall 2015 and spring 2016 semesters. Students are expected to work both semesters. E-interns will begin their duties no later than October 5, 2015. Those duties end on the last day of spring semester classes.
E-interns must check-in with their organizations on a daily basis and with e-internship staff weekly. Students have to respond quickly to employer or PACS communications and meet all deadlines.
E-interns must adhere to all organization confidentiality guidelines and act according to the highest professional standards.
E-interns must produce a final product or document, as agreed upon by your supervisor.
E-interns must agree to additional parameters set forth in the syllabus for the program.
Failure to meet the above requirements will result in the intern's dismissal from the program.
Academic Credit
Students may earn academic credits during the spring semester. The E-internship director will provide further guidance about the possibility to those selected into the program.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible to apply for a PACS e-internship, students must:
Have a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA
Be a rising sophomore, junior, or senior
Have completed one of the following courses: GOVT 204 or 150W: Introduction to International Politics; HIST 192: Global History Since 1500; or SOCL 205: Global Social Problems.
Preference will be given to students that:
Have also completed GOVT 329: International Security or GOVT 328: International Political Economy
Have completed a quantitative or qualitative methods course
Have completed a GIS courses
