[PAST EVENT] American Studies Brown Bag, "The Whore Next Door: WWII Propaganda and its Effect on Sexual Violence"

Ph.D. Candidate Michaele Smith will present "The Whore Next Door: WWII Propaganda and Its Effect on Sexual Violence in America." She will discuss WWII venereal disease posters and draw connections to a court-martial case tried at the end of the war. She argues that the federal government's portrayal of women in propaganda affected the way courts treated them and likely contributed to the increase in violence against women in America during the war.
